Georgetown, Guyana, 26 August 2025 – Omni Helicopters International (OHI) and its subsidiary Omni Helicopters Guyana Inc. (OHGI) proudly celebrate a landmark achievement in Guyana’s aviation history: the successful completion of the first training phase by the country’s inaugural ab-initio helicopter pilots, Mr. Somant Heeralall and Mr. Yadram Ramcharran.
This milestone, recognized during a ceremony at Kesi Adele Adams Memorial Heliport in Ogle, represents the beginning of a new chapter for the nation’s aviation community. Mr. Heeralall and Mr. Ramcharran, who trained intensively for over a year at a leading U.S. flight school, have now earned their Commercial Helicopter Pilot Licenses with Instrument Ratings. They are set to advance to the next stage of offshore helicopter training, paving the way for their future roles as Guyana’s first-ever offshore oil and gas helicopter pilots.
In addition to honoring the ab-initio pilots, the ceremony also celebrated the progress of Guyanese engineering apprentices and Search & Rescue (SAR) rear crew — further proof of OHGI’s long-term commitment to nurturing local talent. Since commencing operations in 2023, OHI has grown its Guyanese workforce to 65% of its total team, underscoring its dedication to building a sustainable, all-Guyanese aviation operation.
“This is an important milestone not only for Omni but also for Guyana’s aviation community. We are proud to welcome Somant and Yadram as the nation’s first offshore pilots,” said Duncan Moore, Chief Safety Officer at Omni Helicopters International. “Their dedication and passion will inspire a new generation of Guyanese professionals, strengthening our vision of creating opportunities and building a strong national aviation team.”
